San Diego-based jazz guitarist Peter Sprague is a prolific musician, recording engineer, composer, arranger, producer, and life-long surfer.

Peter Sprague

American jazz artist Peter Sprague has dedicated his life to music. A San Diego transplant from Ohio, he spent his childhood immersed in surfing and playing guitar. From a family of musicians and frequently in bands with his brother Tripp, to traveling the world playing alongside jazz greats, to his beachside recording studio SpragueLand in Encinitas, Sprague’s life has been one inextricably entwined with music.

Sprague has studied under Pat Metheny, Madame Chaloff, and Albin Czak, and played with Chick CoreaHubert LawsLarry CoryellDavid Benoit, Sergio Mendes, Dianne Reeves, and more. Sprague’s love and respect for Chick Corea’s work led to collaborating with the man and transcribing many of Corea’s musical improvisations for print. Sprague is also the inventor of a two necked guitar featuring one classical guitar neck and one from a steel-string acoustic guitar.

The talented and hard-working Peter Sprague has produced or played on nearly 200 recordings, taught music in the US. and abroad, and has written books for others’ and his own music.
